What's in it

Organic dried elderberries, cinnamon sticks, fresh ginger root, whole clove, honey and lemon. That is the full list — no extracts, no preservatives, no refined sugar.

Because it is sweetened with honey, it is not for children under 1 year.

How we make it

We simmer the elderberries low and slow with the cinnamon, ginger and clove until the kitchen smells like a holiday, strain the berries out, and stir in the honey and lemon once the syrup has cooled a little so the honey stays raw. Then it goes straight into jars.

Every batch is small and made to order, the same as our juice, under the Texas Cottage Food Law. The jar carries the full ingredient list and our handling notes.

How to enjoy it

A spoonful straight from the jar is the classic. It is also lovely stirred into warm water or hot tea, drizzled over pancakes, oatmeal or yogurt, or shaken into sparkling water with a squeeze of lemon.

A tablespoon a day makes an 8 oz jar last about two weeks — which is exactly why we offer it as an every-2-weeks jar below. Keep it refrigerated and shake well before each spoonful.

Ways to get it

Good to know

Can I give it to my kids?

Not to children under 1 year — it contains honey. For everyone else it is a food, not a medicine; if you have questions about how it fits your family, your doctor is the right person to ask.

How long does a jar last?

At a tablespoon a day, about two weeks. Keep it in the fridge, lid on, and shake before each use.

Can I freeze it?

Yes — freeze it in the jar with a little headroom, or in an ice-cube tray for single spoonfuls, and thaw in the fridge.
